The firm was founded in 1966 by Howard S. Boros who retired in 1985. The firm enjoys an AV (highest) rating from the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory.

Garofalo Goerlich Hainbach's aviation law practice is all encompassing ranging from regulatory matters to negotiation and documentation of aircraft purchase and lease transactions.

The firm represents clients before numerous U.S. government agencies, including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Department of Transportation (DOT), National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), Department of State, Department of Defense, Customs Service, Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), and Department of Commerce. Its clients include scheduled, charter, U.S., and foreign, passenger and cargo airlines, commuter air carriers, on-demand air taxis, aircraft management companies, fractional ownership program managers and participants, aircraft brokers, leasing companies, fixed base operators, licensed repair stations, aircraft and parts dealers and manufacturers, major tour operators/wholesalers, travel agents, and other aircraft owners and operators. The firm advises these clients on various issues, including matters affecting the client's regulatory compliance and its licenses and operations, bilateral air service negotiations, federal tort claims, matters involving aircraft purchase and sale contracts and leases, contract matters affecting other aspects of the clients' businesses, and export and import matters.

In addition to experience in the private practice of law, several of the firm's lawyers have roots in the government and industry sectors. More specifically, Mr. Garofalo worked for the FAA for several years and is trained as an aeronautical engineer, having received a degree in that field. Mr. Hainbach worked for the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB), the predecessor to the DOT, for five years.  Mr. Goerlich is an active instrument-rated pilot and maintains a light aircraft at Leesburg, Virginia.
